Are you dead set on a kimber? If so, any particular reason?

I'd prefer one, if I'm going to go out and pay $800 plus for a pistol it might as well a Kimber. Plus they look so damn sexy

If getting a kimber, first thing you should do is remove the fpb

I like 9mm. I've had both and a 45 is nice, but a 9mm 1911 is an awesome shooting pistol.
I'm partial to the Raptor and Warrior. Wish the warrior came in 9mm.
There are couple other models that look good as well.

Firing pin block aka firing pin safety.
Removal will give u a shorter trigger reset. Colts (series 80) and kimbers use a fpb. Springfields and all the competition ready 1911s don't.

I leave to go back to Oxford tomorrow unfortunately so it looks like I'll miss out on those great deals

You should do some research on Kimber quality. It has really dropped in the last few years. I would go w/ a Colt or Sig 1911. The Sigs are very good for the money. I would go for 45 acp; that is what they are built for. Expensive rounds that are pretty damn dirty but fun and its good to have at least one large caliber handgun.

So you think I should go with the 45? I see the vast majority of them are 45's

$800 and under you should be going for a Ruger SR1911.

What is the absolute most you are willing to spend?

It's hard to say, I probably wouldn't go over $1,500 unless I really really really liked the pistol

Oh. Go with a Dan Wesson of your choice in that range.

What's a Dan Wesson? Never heard of them
