I don't NEED it.. But it would be nice to crack a beer and watch football there but that is not an option. I've never been able to drink in front of my parents and while at 27, my dad still thinks it's "bad parenting" letting your kids drink around them.. So this is what I'm dealing with....

If you're 27 you shoudl realize by now it's not a big deal.

I drink heavily, fricking love drinking and do several times a week. My whole life my family has been very anti-alcohol and there hasn't been one single solitary family gathering in my 31 years that a drop of alcohol was present. But it's not an issue because it's just the way things are...I accept that for a few hours I'll just be forced to socialize and eat and watch TV with my family that I love and enjoy being around, then I'll go home and start drinking there.

unless you are dependent on them, reset that boundary. If you want a drink when you are around them, and they say no. GTFO.

Do that repeatedly. They will get the message. Once you stop being financially dependent on your parents, you have most of the power in that relationship. fricking use it. Its hard to grasp but it works.

My family drinks, so this isn't an issue. But if they didn't, I would just say frick it and have a drink myself. What are they going to do? Kick me out on tgiving? Yeah, that is going to work out well.
