...by firing Miles when he did, he put LSU in a position to attempt to accomplish something THIS season. Alleva tried to fire his arse last year, but it fell apart. When he was proven to be correct all along he got rid of that bastard the first chance he got. When Miles was fired: 1- the sec West was still in our grasp 2- a playoff berth was still alive 3- a NY6 bowl was still on the table. There was zero chance to accomplish any of the above with Miles. Every other possible coaching candidate was coaching a team when Miles was fired. Its not until this time that getting a new coach can start to really grow legs. I am certain Alleva didn't just sit on his hands until this point, but there isn't a whole lot he could have
what you say is 100% correct. many, if not most, on here have no clue what a coaching search is and the realities involved. since LSU is looking for a top tier coach with experience it means the candidates are successful where they are, highly compensated and may be happy as a lark. it is tough, real tough. timing and luck are probably the biggest factors in hitting a home run hire. EVERY program faces the risk of settling and that happens more often than not. it took bama several tries before getting lucky with Saban. Michigan, Miami, Texas, USC, Ohio State and Notre Dame are just some programs that had to settle over the last few years. you could easily add Georgia, Florida and Auburn to that list.
