If you could, which one of these would you eliminate:
Department of State
Department of Treasury
Department of Defense
Department of Justice
Department of Interior
Department of Agriculture
Department of Commerce
Department of Labor
Department of Health and Human Services
Department of Housing and Urban Development
Department of Transportation
Department of Energy
Department of Education
Department of Veterans Affairs
Department of Homeland Security
Me, I would eliminate HUD, Dept. of Education, Commerce, and Energy.
I also would merge the VA into the Dept. of Defense.
That would be a nice start.

We already share information, so it could work, but there are also a lot of differences between how the 2 operate.

Homeland Security. I loved how W handled 9/11, but I didn't understand the need for this department. It's Defense, isn't it?

Commerce - Useless.
Education - Valuable mission but they produce poor results. They're more of a hindrance than an asset.
Justice - The Navy can prosecute felonies on the high seas. Defense can prosecute treason. Treasury can prosecute counterfeiting. Everything else is outside the federal government's enumerated powers.

It is curious. They basically took all Federal law enforcement agencies with the exception of the FBI, e.g. Secret Service, ATF, etc., and stuck them in this new entity.
It is really "Dept. of Federal Law Enforcement" without the FBI (which is still part of the DOJ).

I would start with Homeland Security... it is the liberals vehicle to a domestic police force as great as our military. 'Member when Obama said he wanted one of those?

Then I roll Interior, Agriculture and Commerce all into one Dept.
Then I roll HUD, HHS and Education into a Dept of Welfare.
Then I roll Transportation and Energy into one Dept.

Good luck. It is not that I don't believe it shouldn't be smaller - but damn, what a job practically speaking.
Hint - Nearly all of them. DoD being one to keep.
