Camera Questions

So I don't know much about cameras but I'm looking to buy the wife one for xmas. I'd like to spend around $300 but can go above that if needed. I'm looking for something that can upload pics straight to shutterfly/FB/Insta. I see some cameras have wifi capability but it's not clear if they can load to these websites.
I'm also looking for something that can produce an 8x10 pic that's frame worthy. How many pixels would I need or do I need to be looking at a spec other than pixels?
I'd like a camera that takes quick pictures. The one we have now (about 10 yrs old) has a delay while it focuses. What's this called?

Sounds like a new smartphone would do the trick.
If you want a more serious answer you need to provide examples of the type of photos she is wanting to take and her level of expertise. An 8x10 is rather vague. For a landscape, you can get decent shots from most any camera. For a portrait, a basic DSLR can get you the depth of field and enough bokeh effect to have a nice headshot.
It sounds like she just needs to get a new model point and shoot.

thanks for the input and that seems like a pretty good suggestion. i guess i'm looking for something that would allow us to grow into some more serious photography but not anything too crazy. i'd like something that we could use to take pics/headshots of the kids and blow up to 8x10 for framing. also something that we could use when we travel, take good shots in various lights. i'd be willing to spend up to $600 to get something like that.

You can find a Rebel T or one of canon's competitor's camera kit that is a version or two old that will do what you need.

A DSLR will give you more room to grow and learn. The Canon T6 with a 18-55mm lens is on sale at Best Buy right now for $499. It has built-in wi-fi which allows connection to your smart phone and "certain social media websites". Not sure if it will upload directly to a photo storage site or not.
