I exercise my way out of it every time. It's the only thing that works for me. Usually three or four days of continual movement/walking etc is enough to do the trick.

Don't want to get into the whole chiropractor argument, but ....
My sciatica pain was so bad that, at it's worst, I was scared to get in my truck and drive anywhere because it could flare up at any time and cause me to lose control of the vehicle.
I went to a chiropractor and my sciatica problem was completely gone in a couple of weeks. Honestly, I felt substantial relief after the 1st treatment.
For people with chronic sciatica, I hear inversion tables are very effective treatment tools.
