Assuming George HW Bush and Jimmy Carter live another 71 days, we will have the following 5 living Ex POTUS
Carter
Bush 41
Clinton
Bush 43
Obama
Surely we've never had five before? I would be surprised if we've ever had four before the current crop. Carter and Bush 41 are both over 90 I think...

I remember Nixon dying in like 93 right after Clinton was elected. But I thought Ford was already dead. I actually don't even remember hearing about when he died. Anyone have the year?
You would be right. Because Nixon overlapped Clinton by a year or so.

Have you read the book The President's Club? It's all about how the living presidents interact. Really interesting.

5 ex-Presidents (6 total Presidents) is the record and it was Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, and Clinton from Jan. 20, 1993, through April 22, 1994

Presidential lifespans
This is a scroller with their lifespans. You can see where their terms were and find out how many were around any given year.
Nixon died right after Clinton came in but the 4 left made it until he finished so there was 5 again for a little while until Reagan died.

Crazy. Somehow Ford's death completely missed my radar.

5 in 1862 if I am reading the graph right, think it is a record.
The 5 groups don't last long.

“If the Presidents Club had a seal, around the ring would be three words: cooperation, competition and consolation. On the one hand, the presidents have powerful motives - personal and patriotic - to help one another succeed and comfort one another when they fail. But at the same time, they compete for history's blessing.”

“Bill Clinton was lucky in many ways; but when it came to former presidents, he won the lottery. When he was elected president, he had five former commanders in chief at his disposal: Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, and Bush, the most of any president in the twentieth century. Not all of them had been helpful to one another, in or out of office. But some combination of his charm, their needs, and the new global challenges of the post–Cold War age allowed Clinton to deploy nearly all to his advantage—especially, as it turned out, the Republicans.”
