Yep,
Pom-poms and towels only quiet a crowd. Maybe look cool on TV but you cannot clap while shaking or swinging one. Noise helps a home team win.

I have to laugh at some of the bitching here. A couple of the loudest games in Tiger Stadium history had towels. The Tennessee OT win under Saban when fans rushed the field had towels and it was one of the loudest and most electric atmospheres ever. That was the first time I ever remember them doing that. 2012 Bama had them too and you pretty much can't get any louder than that. They don't stop anyone from being loud. I see very few people screaming and clapping at the same time, so towels aren't really affecting noise levels. Though they can seem kind of pointless, the LSU fans actually seem to bring some extra energy with the towels.
