My first character, I went all spells. Around level 20 the game got too hard. It wasn't fun. I leveled the wrong skills and the world leveled up faster.
My 2nd time around I went with my dual wield 1h + Archer combo that I always liked in Oblivion. IMO this is the most fun way to play if you just wanna kill everything that moves without thinking too much about it.
Shield + 1h and heavy armor was another character I wanted to get behind. I think I started one but never really took off with it. The shield skills are pretty good in Skyrim.
Mixing in magic is pretty important regardless of what you do. Conjuration, Destruction, and Restoration are 3 I can never do without. Not a big Alteration fan. Illusion is fun sometimes, but I usually stay away from it. Enchanting is a must have.
Sneak is fun, but I feel like it breaks the game if you get it too high.

quote:As far as effectiveness, being a hunter/rogue/bowman is the best way to go. Bows are awesome and the late game skills for assassination with daggers are ridiculously op.
