My point is that exactly. Herman and Jimbo aren't guaranteed to come. And you can't say O would suck as a coach whenever he's coaching our team right f*cking now. He won't do sh*t any different than he's doing now and why, so far, would that be a bad thing. If he does good and wins out or even loses 1 to Bama or A&M it's not worth taking a shot on a tier 2 coach when you have a proven winner right f*cking here.

well except he isn't a proven winner
he is a proven winner with other coaches players and assistants
but proven with his own team? not so much

he did recruit some of the kids here and at USC.
He can't implement full changes yet since we don't have an off season but I think its worth at least hearing O lay out his plan for bringing us back to what we should be. So far O has pushed all the right buttons. I just don't see the point of ruling him out just because 10 years ago and when no one has been on the inside of what he is telling those that matter. I also think its stupid to just crown him.

On the players, he can recruit just as well if not better than anyone. The well won't be dry with him as coach, it might actually be even better.
On the assistants, so what? Apparently he did better with those same assistants as those other coaches who got fired for him to be an interim head coach. How is that a bad thing?
Why don't you just point to his record from 10 years ago, because at least that makes a little bit of sense. Then you'd have the straw man about how people can never ever change that you can cling on to.

I'm so glad an OM fan finally came to this discussion.

I don't know anyone ruling him out completely
many just do not want him as the #1 choice or to "crown him" without seriously trying for perceived better options

what about if/when they leave? how well is O at hiring and finding his own people?

it is the only evidence we have of him running a program over multiple years
it isn't something to judge him 100% on, but you cannot also just toss it aside either
it is part of his resume

I'm not the one building strawmen here

plenty of people on both sides crowning him and plenty just ruling him out for things that happened 10 years ago.
Alot of the anti O people are that way because they feel like the admin is going to crown him instead of looking into the 3 tier 1 options. I think that is wrong considering we have probably reached out.
Its going to be an insane melt if we hire O because it will never become an official thing that we tried for Herman, Chip and Jimbo and didn't get them.

Well he hired Hugh Freeze who is a head coach right now. His O.C. at Ole Miss was Noel Mazzone who is the O.C. at A&M, not a shabby hire. He has connections all around the country. He got Pete Jenkins to come out of retirement FFS. And besides, we've already proven to pay top dollar on assistant coaches, hiring the best shouldn't be an issue. Hell, your boy Les Miles made Cam Cameron the highest paid O.C. in the country to have a passing game that was horrible all but 1 year.

He's coaching the team right now, breaking records with the TE's coach at O.C. It's not like he doesn't have a chance to prove himself because he's doing it now. Nobody is saying give it to him now, but after the start we had to the season if we can win out then you absolutely have to give him serious consideration, and if he drops 3 games then you can go with a tier 2 coach if You can't get the tier 1 coaches.
