Wrong. That used to be the law but SCOTUS made a decision in the last couple of years that passengers can be detained and identified. I can't remember the citation right this second and really don't want to look it up. Google away though. Prior to that, the police had zero authority to order a passenger from the car or detain them if they tried to leave.

FWIW, I am a pretty staunch law and order guy but think this decision is an amazing overreach along the lines of the DWI checkpoint decision. Never the less, they likened it to the police coming upon a crime scene and having the authority to perform an investigative detention to identify who is and isn't involved in the crime.

Can't believe it's 2016 and we're arguing about this.

The passenger is free to go.

I'm pretty strong law and order with a heavy dose of individual liberty.

The problem with all of these people is that they are taking their anger out on the wrong group of people.

LEO don't make the laws or interpret the laws. If free-girl has a beef with someone it's the CA State Legislature and/or the Judge assigned to her case.

Like LEO usually says... take it up with the Judge. Then if that doesn't work out, take it up with your representatives.
