I know Ingram is from Alabama, but what is the reason for the hate this far along into his career? The dude can run, he just needs to start getting more carries a game.

I'm always on the fence when it comes to Ingram. He has the heart, horrible blocking for him when he gets the ball, exellent receiver, but seems to lack at being a very special back.

I'm not a big fan of Ingram and I like Lasco, but Ingram is and should be the starter. I can't believe this is even a debate.

None. I find the game more enjoyable when Brees is slingin' it

Lasco is overrated by some on this board. He's a good backup/role player, but I don't think he can be a full time starter.

The irrational Ingram hate on this board is comical.

Wrong. You stay with the designed play. No body is seeing what he is seeing and he is a master at finding an open receiver.
quote:Correct. The Saints run game is way to vanilla. They have beaten that off tackle run to death. They have to get creative to establish their run game. Running to the edges ,more pitch outs. They have done well with the fake pump and delayed hand off. Establishing the running game is huge to eating up the clock and keeping the def. off the field. Ingram is a very capable back but if you keep running the same 2 basic plays you will never establish the run. This o-line is built for pass blocking so you have to be creative in your attack.
Coaching and line performance are the issues.

I sort of feel like Ingram just doesn't have "it". I hate talking intangibles because I'm a numbers person but he just doesn't finish well.

I've been on the Lasco train since preseason.

It's not a debate for anyone that couldn't give 2 shits where a player goes to school. My only gripe with him is not being able to play a full season but it's not exactly his fault.

I'm not going to put Ingram's numbers or his health on trial because the numbers are there (they are good) and he can't really help when and if he gets hurt.
I will put his running style on trial, though. Even though he's a hard runner, he's an easy tackle. So many times I've thought there should have been more to one of his runs, but he runs right into a defender or gets tripped. How does a guy that stocky get tripped? He's really stout but he goes down easy. I don't think he's soft, I just think he doesn't have a great feel for finishing his runs. It's what set Pierre Thomas apart, IMO. Thomas ALWAYS finished a run. And he wasn't the fastest, he wasn't the quickest, but he had this ability to get yards where there weren't any.

He gets a lot of yards after contact in his career. Hell, I remember at one point a few years ago, he had more yards after contact than yards

Yea, PT led the NFL in broken tackle % and elusive % for a few years. He was amazing at it

I know, I hate going against the numbers. I think Ingram is very useful, but I just don't ever feel like he's anything special out there.

Brees is playing amazing right now.
And he's not "looking off his rb's", he's running the play as it is designed. Just because you see a RB pop open doesn't mean it is the first read on the play.
Bash Brees lolz

We've been getting eaten alive on this lately. We're doing it too much

What same 2 plays are we repeatedly running? You say you want more edge runs, yet you think we've run off-tackle too much.... You have to be able to set the edge to have success

I agree that he isn't particularly special at one thing, but I think he's well above average at everything.

We have a good stable of running backs already in place. This would be a good week to work on the run game against the chiefs. Their run def. is not as stout as their pass def.

Ingram gets YAC when he gets lost in a pile. In other words his balance is decent when his momentum is stopped, and he's fighting for extra yards. He can carry guys & even break free in some spots.
His balance is terrible when he is at or near full speed though. He gets knocked off his feet way too easy. Part of this is his lack of patience in & around the LOS. It's not always ideal to be on your way to 100% acceleration every time you take a handoff.
Not to mention he is useless once he gets into the second level. It's a straight line or bust. He lacks flexibility that most good RBs have.
He's boring but he doesn't hurt us. Would still prefer more explosive runners such as Khiry or Chris Ivory. And Pierre of course.
