I'm sure it helped some but i believe in hiring the best person available and all this talk of "seasoning" is overrated. great coaches are great coaches. i don't think Urban in 2005 was dramatically better than the Urban in 2003 and if he had been hired at a power school then he would have ended up doing just as well.

I understand your logic but I think it might be wrong. Everything does change everything and when you have a chance to dominate at each level you move up to then you don't lose focus and faith in your better ideas.

BG to Utah to Florida was an incredible trajectory but it gave time to learn the ropes of different aspects of managing recruiting, boosters, recruits, fame, etc. People somehow forget how outstanding those Utah teams he coached were - without him doing that in Utah maybe they don't have the national cache to get entry into the PAC.
