Agree with what you are saying but if one of Army or Navy were in contention wouldn't it still impact the Bowl selections for the SEC if an SEC team may or may not get selected for the playoff or not. Doesn't it have a trickle down effect determining where each SEC team is placed in their Bowl games ?
