I replaced the outside lights by my garage door and the lights by the front door with LED bulbs. That was 20 bulbs and it was pricey. I have not noticed a difference in my electric bill yet. I hope these last a long time. I'm sick of replacing bulbs every 3-6 months.

throw a cheap energy-monitoring plug-in module on 2 lights; one with regular & one with LED and you'll quickly see the difference. you can pick one up for $20 at home depot and return it when you're done playing.

you don't notice a difference because 95% of your electric bill is your damn HVAC trying to pull water and heat out of your air.

my hew house had so many damn lights (a zillion can lights, 18 floods, track lights, eyeballs, etc etc) and while we were moving in it seemed like 5 lights would burn out every day. once i swapped LEDs across the house, i haven't given a second thought to lights..its SO frickING NICE TO HAVE GOOD LIGHTS THAT DONT DIE EVERY THREE MONTHS

eta nothing drives cad crazier than chasing burned-out lights (well except amazon). it used to be like whack-a-mole. everytime i'd fix one, another would go out. i'd carry around that little egg carton of CFLs hunting for dead lights and it seemed like i bought a new 12-pack every other month.
