A little fiasco like the one you've just described is the main reason why my wife and I don't travel in big groups anymore, or if we do, we decide on a location and our friends can meet us if they're able to

Totally understand this. Usually when we go with a group of friends, it's my friends or our friends we met jointly. Both of these groups are in similar economic situations to us. This is some of her old friends form HS and college, who I am really not fond of, but it's quite obvious she wants to go with them, so I'm going along.

Again, if it's a place with a good view and cold beer, it's hard for me to have a bad time!

One question - I assume Punta Cana is pretty safe?

and as I will always diplomatically plead, please take a shite ton of pics and come back and post a solid review that we can include in the sticky at the top of this board.

You got it. Hey, I'm going to Mouseland next month, you want a review of that?? =)

Economic or Socio economic, or whatever you want to pin that on, it is just a royal pain in the arse to get everybody to want to do the same things like where to get dinner, daytime activities and then hoping people show up and eventually pay their way ....when sometimes they get too drunk and forget to go or just quit caring about it while they're there. if we do go in big groups we typically rent a nice home (with 10+ people it's cheaper than a nice hotel) that allows couples to come and go as they please, and we only really plan one big night out for everybody to do something together. That method works out great, that way people can do their own thing and don't feel obligated to adhere to another person's detailed agenda or constrained to do something they just don't want to do.

.....and shite yes, this board will love a photo recap that we can put within the sticky! Photos are king but what puts it over the top our little tips and tricks and things you experienced.

I never felt in danger while in PuntA Cana, not for one second. But just like any town in any country on the globe, there are dodgy streets you just don't go down, it's a simple as that.
