Name all the head coaching jobs in college football that if they came open today, Coach O would garner top 3 consideration.

I think O could be a top candidate at programs like Houston, Kentucky, Colorado State, Arkansas State, Iowa State, USF, FIU, San Diego State, and the like.

I don't think he would be a candidate for Texas, Penn State, ND, OSU, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Michigan State, VT, WVU, Pittsburgh, FSU, and the like.

He won a game against Missouri! Seriously, though. Think about the jobs Coach O would be in contention for, then ask yourself, is LSU that type of job?

What SEC jobs would O be a top 3 candidate for?

None right now. Maybe all of them if he wins out?

Let him prove himself in the next few weeks. It will become apparent if he is qualified for the job

If he wins out or close to it this year, then with his USC resume he would likely be in contention for several of those "elite" job openings. If only because there are more openings than jobs. That's why I wouldn't mind giving him a short leash as our HC for a year or two if Herman and Fisher fall through.

One thing you're forgetting.. He isn't a candidate, he IS the head coach. Naturally, other schools wouldn't consider him because of his previous head coaching stops, but LSU isn't starting from scratch in a coaching search. If any of those prestigious schools fired their head coach mid-season, and the interim did better than the previous coach, they'd be ignorant not to at least consider it. Stop thinking about how this will look from the outside and just let the man have his shot and see how it plays out.

How does this thought experiment forget anything? Think of the jobs Coach O could get now. Ask yourself if LSU is on par with those jobs. Assuming he can't get any other job on this level, ask yourself why that is.

He currently has the LSU job. That is what this thought experiment forgets. Pretty blatantly ignorant "experiment" as you seem to have left out the "thought" part of it. If he were actually the head coach at any one of those universities, and performed well, he would 100% be considered for those jobs.

Get out of your imaginative vacuum and into the real world.

This "thought excercise" ignores that he will have 7 more games to show what he can do with top talent, and that there is still a very strong contingent of USC fans, a top three program, who feel like it would have been better off in his hands. If O loses 4 games he won't garner any interest, if he runs the table and wins a NC, he'll have to change his number. It's really dumb to speculate right now.

I don't care what those other programs do or would do. LSU needs to make its best move, and they need to consider every possibility. too soon to say yeah Coach O, but you better be considering every avenue.

There are hundreds of coaches around the league that could go 6-2, 7-1 as interim HC with this talent (remember when we were favored in every game this season?). For the thousandth time, wins as an interim coach are meaningless! If Coach O wasn't a reasonable candidate for the job last month, he shouldn't be now or a month from now, even if he goes 8-0. My left nut could "let the assistants coach" and cheerlead this team to 6-2 easy. My right nut would go 8-0, and still shouldn't get the permanent gig.

What's the point of this thread? He and every LSU fans knows he has an uphill battle ahead of himself. He's got 8 games to prove himself. So far so good.

So you feel if Orgeron beats Ole Miss, Bama, and ATM, that is meaningless and has no bearing on whether or not he should be hired? Give me a fricking break, or better yet just join the rest of us in reality.

Yes. I love Coach O, but interim HC wins are meaningless. Clay Helton won at USC just like Orgeron, how'd that work out? You don't think Aranda or Ensminger could go on a run as interim HC with this team? Hell, Peveto could go 6-2 from his house. Don't. Mean. Nothing.
