Herman has 19 games as a HC.
That is the only drawback I can see with Herman and it is definitely something to chew on!!!
On the other hand "at HOUSTON" he has beaten Fisher, Stoops and Petrino and Meyer gave Herman all the credit for his offensive game plan that dismantled Bama & Saban so in a round about way you can put Saban on that list. That is pretty impressive considering he has only 19 games under his belt as a HC.

Petrino
Hey he definitely puts a winner on the field that cannot be denied, but shite his resume looks really, really bad "5 jobs since 2006. roughly every 2 years hopping to some other job" on top of his morality is a serious issue. Also you have to figure in the fact he has a $10mil buyout clause which is $5mil more than Fisher's buyout clause. It ain't gonna be Petrino unless a few other coaches rebuff us and I still don't think Petrino gets the job here. I am not saying he wouldn't win here, hell he would light it up, but he won't be our next HC.

gimme Jimbo
The safe bet that is for sure. If we get either Fisher or Herman we should be fine.

Won't need to pay him that to get him unless UT and USC are in the hunt for a HC also.

Couldn't agree with you more. Whether people like it or not Saban does it really well that is why he is so successful, he might not be a players coach per say but he has the respect of his team and that is what is needed most.
In the high stakes game of college football you have to make some tough decisions on who to start and to sit and those kinds of relationships with players can impede your judgement and you end up making the wrong decision because of the relationship you have with one player over another.

Give it time. As soon as he steps on campus, The Rant will find something wrong with him.

Aside from spending some time in Texas, why would he choose UT over LSU again? Who passes on the chance to coach at the school that puts the most players in the NFL and plays in the top conference in all of CF vs a mediocre at best big 12 team. Texas is just not on the same level as it used to be, and certainly not on par with LSU.
He will come here, and the transformation will be immediate!

And in those 19 games he's beaten some of the nation's best programs, with inferior talent. Sign me up

Are you fricking serious?????
Like most people on this site I bleed purple and gold but I also am smart enough not to let it cloud my judgement. It is a better gig period end of story. It might not be a whole lot better gig but it is definitely a better gig. Just ask unbiased coaches, players and media and I will bet 90% pick Texas.

How do you know he doesn't have the respect of his team?

I agree with you. You have asst coaches for this. The HC has to keep his head clear, so not to eventually play favorites. Goal should be to get the best out of the players. Not to be their best friend. My dad wasn't a buddy buddy type of guy and he taught me everything i needed to know and there's no one i respect more. He didn't buddy me, so i couldn't get over on him if i tried. I tried plenty.

His leading rusher was his QB tonight and his best RB had 9 carries for 27 yards. Against UCONN.
Think about that.

His best RB was on the sideline injured

If we're gonna compare any coach to Saban, then that coach will always have some kind of hole with his personality or tactics.

Because his best Rb on the team IS his Qb. Houston is not even in the same universe as LSU when it comes to Rb talent year in and year out. Totally different animal.

I don't, and he probably does have the respect of his players but it is a very fine line between being friends and being boss. Getting too close to the players could present judgement issues.

Come on man, you walked right into this one. He knows exactly how to use quality RBs when he has them.

He usually has 2 1,000 yard rushers. One of them is usually the Qb.

I've thought about it.
1) his best RB was hurt.
2) his best RB isnt near the caliber ours are.
3) ever heard of Zeke Elliot???
