Looking for something to pull my new travel trailer better than my 1/2 ton Suburban. I am comfortable pulling it with the Suburban within 2-3 hrs of the house. But thinking long term and taking it in the mountains or across the country.
I have 4 kids so I need seatbelts but pulling ability too. Travel Trailer max GVWR is about 9000 lbs.

Eesh. Gonna have to be super high mileage or old or both. In the fords you'll be looking at the V10s basically. The GM 6.0s were good also.
Anything will have sucky MPG

People with Excursions tend to take care of them. Same with 2500 Suburbans. You dead set on a truck, because those seem to align with what you have now?

How heavy a camper?
For a quad cab diesel, you're looking at something with more than 200k miles probably

For that price you're probably looking at high mileage. If I were you, I'd be very careful about any gasoline engine. Diesel is probably going to be your best bet.

If gas mileage doesn't matter, get an early 2000s model F series with the 7.3. Those engines are absolutely bullet proof. Know multiple guys with over 400,000 miles on theirs. One has over a million.
