And something like Idaho and Hawaii in 2003
Boise St vs. Hawaii.

Had Hawaii won that game, USC's strength of schedule would have been higher than LSU's and they would have been in the BCS championship game. But when Boise St beat Hawaii, which USC had done earlier in the season, that dropped Hawaii's RPI and hence, dropped USC's RPI.

I remember this well because on Monday after the BCS game was announced, I sent a poinsettia plant (it was in December) and a thank you note to the Boise State head coach, Dan Hawkins. True story.

So what you're say is LSU would not have beaten USC, and it's better that LSU didn't get a shot to get the "outright" national championship? (Obviously the crystal ball means much more than the AP title, but still. There would be no debate had LSU had an opportunity to beat USC)
