I heard it was an old cattle chute they used to load cattle on barges for transport across the lake... and there are more than that one... at least that's what the people at turtle cove told us on a trip we took down there... who knows if its true or not

There's another stretch similar to that between the Tangi River and Tchefuncte known as the "Marcays". Have heard several stories about what their purpose was, but never anything conclusive.
