Not saying I support this or I've heard this will happen. Just a scenario

Aranda - HC
Yaw Yaw - DC
Major Applewhite - OC
Use the money you save from having to get a high profile HC and give Applewhite a good contract and Yaw Yaw a raise.
Would you be ok with this set up? I know Aranda is unproven but I like what I've seen so far and he seems to have the temperament for the job. Thoughts? Personally I think LSU would make a "splash" hire so this probably wouldn't happen. Just wondering the Rants thoughts.

I like it! Would be a relatively young staf and Yaw would stay home. Craig would be in the same position except make him over recruiting or Jaluke over recruiting.
If get rid of Peveto, Ensminger and Moffit and go get someone younger. that would be bad arse.

aranda has a zero percent chance to get the job if miles is canned.
Posted on 9/20/16 at 3:35 pm to Random LSU Hero
No. Unless other major schools see enough in Aranda after one year in the SEC to inquire about his services, no reason LSU should do anything other than make a concerted effort to keep him at DC.

quote:Aranda's strength is reportedly defense; no clear indication that he would be as good a HC as he is a DC (and he has yet to complete season 1 at LSU). Orgeron is a strong personality. We know his record, before LSU and since coming. Potential clash. Not sure it wouldn't end badly for one or both of them. Major A might be good at OC, but what makes anybody think he wants in at LSU?

Wasn't the question at all

Honest question; if you were going to do this. Why not let O be HC? He's the only one with that experience.

We won't hire a HC with no HC experience. This state, conference and fan base are not for the unproven.

Ask Ole Miss why not. Good position coach and recruiter, but doesn't have the finesse for HC.

Les is winning the SEC this year. If he leaves, it will be on his terms.
Frankly, if I were him I wouldn't want to coach a team to entertain this insufferable and ungrateful fanbase. If I stayed it would be for love of the players and the money.
He's done so much for the program and so many of our fans will turn on someone at the drop of a hat the first time anything gies wrong.
How many other LSU coaches averaged over ten wins a season, won several SEC championships, won a natty and played for another?
Even his worst teams were above-average.
He is a major part of the reason our program is elite, and there is a very good chance that his eventual successor will not be able to maintain the level of success Les has brought us.
Fisher would be a lateral move from our vantage point. Herman is the only one I can think of off-hand that we have any shot of getting that would be a probable upgrade from Les.

And if Les leaves and we get anyone other than Herman, expect A&M or Auburn to snap him up immediately and proceed to kick our asses until he decides to retire.

uh, because he was a complete failure at Ole Miss.
I mean, really, really bad. 10-25 overall, 3-21 in the SEC.
You do realize that coordinator and head coach are COMPLETELY different jobs requiring completely different skill sets. Of course many coordinators end up being good HCs, but many don't.
Our next head coach needs to be a proven head coach. No risky hire hoping to find the "next hot head coach." Pull out the check book and go get a proven, elite head coach.

Not saying I support O taking over as HC, but he wasn't terrible as interim coach at USC.
Full disclosure, I'm for keeping Les unless we're able to get Herman. I don't see anyone else we can get who would be a guaranteed upgrade.

Orgeron is a big fan of the 3-4 defense, so that should at least ease things.
