Near the lake I would stay north of Cermak Ave. (2200 block). I used to live at 1200 S near Michigan and it was fantastic. Soldier Field is around the 1800 S level. To be honest its good all the way to McCormack Place, but there is really no reason to be between Cermak and McCormack place if not at a convention. I would say this is a safe assumption as far west as I-90/94.

The south side is so far south of the touristy areas it's not a concern
