Long time lurker, just joined in order to shed some knowledge from my past experience and hopefully save some heartache.

I know vortex is highly recommended on this forum and I agree that for the price it is very hard to get any better quality, however, I broke 2 Vortex Diamondback's on my CVA Apex in .35 trying to site it in. Customer service and warranty were jam up and gave me no trouble with replacing or honoring the warranty.

My apex will not group any other bullet than a 250gr either, just as a heads up

that's pretty bad. im not too big on vortex, myself. Customers used to have us mount $50-$70 Shooter's Edge scopes on HRs and CVAs and would come back raving about them

Can I ask which scope mount you used on your Apex? If you replaced the one that came with it, which size did you go with? I'd like some low rings but I'm thinking with the straight profile on the top of the CVA's I'll probably need medium for a 40mm scope.

I bought some 225gr Federal Vital Shocks on the recommendation of a buddy. He said the same thing as you basically. The lower grain bullets wouldn't group well for him with any of his 35 Whelens (he has a lever, bolt, and single shot)
