But WHY is that the consequences of failure for that route? This keeps being trotted out as if it's just the way it is rather than the way WE make it. do fans have no responsibility here for it being this way? Could we simply STOP being complete fricking tools and support the players that chose our school?

For me, this isn't a question of whether it's like that or not...it is. It's whether or not it has to STAY that way. I'm arguing that it doesn't have to remain the status quo. We could, in unison, decide to NOT be assholes to our own players. We really could. Will you guys join me on that?

The problem is, too many LIKE being assholes and then turn around and argue it's just the way it is, rather than it's that way because of their own behavior.

I said the same thing yesterday. People excuse being an a-hole by saying "well, that's life" as if there is no alternative. They act as though they've got an obligation to be an a-hole because some other unrelated person was an a-hole to them at one point.

There is a distinct difference between being coddled and being compassionate. Telling Harris it is okay to handle things the way he has would be coddling him. Telling Harris the way he handled things is inappropriate but he has our support to pull through would be compassionate. Too many people fail to understand the difference and opt for being a complete dick to make sure no one thinks they're coddling him.

Hey I have been arguing the other side on this discussion but would like to say that I would never speak hatred towards our players at LSU. I just think that if fans have the want to express themselves or talk about players then, they can. It doesn't mean they won't look like a bunch of fricktards but oh well

The fact that someone is a public figure does not, at least in my mind, make them fair game for ANYTHING said to them. All it takes is a few looks at celebrities reading Tweets about them to realize some people are completely unhinged and their newfound ability to talk directly to famous people is not exactly some great thing.

When it comes to college athletes, I really don't understand it. Again, these guys CHOSE our program. The one we try our best through donations and various fund raising to shine up so as to attract them. They become OURS and part of the extended family of Tigers...at least they do to me. They are not disposable based on their level of play or even if they act immaturely. The idea that this needs to be explained to fans doesn't make any sense to me, honestly. I mean...I get that part of being a fan is being emotionally tied to the program and it's a passionate affair...but that's no excuse for losing one's shite and tearing a player apart. If you love the program and you want these guys to be part of the family, when things are rough is when you double down...not toss them out.
