M1 Garand.

Pop didn't actually fight with it, but he was in Germany in the post war era when the Germans were still not allowed to own guns. He was in an American division that worked hand in hand with the Germans to collect weapons from civilians who still had them. The story goes that when it was collected, a spent shell casing was still stuck in the action, which jammed and ultimately led to the soldier being killed. No telling how true that is, it didn't come to me in that condition and I've never fired it.


One of the thing that causes me the most pain is not writing down some of these stories before Pop died last month.
