It's only a 2 hour drive, I drive it often and there's lots of food, but not many places I would drive out of my to get to. But's maybe that's just me.
Mosca's in Avondale/Westwego is about 20 minutes from NO, and probably the best restaurant on that stretch of road, (old hwy 90). Oysters Mosca is worth the drive. Other good dishes also if you don't like oysters. Interesting back story there about the restaurant.
Sparh's is good, get a Bloody Mary
Bourgeois Meat Mkt (beef jerky & hog head cheese),
Yellow Bowl in Jeanerette (real cajun cooking)
Riverside in Broussard (more Cajun food)
Lots of choices in the Lafayette (one f in Lafayette by the way).
Have a nice drive!
