Coach Speak versus Lying

A lot of the anger on the board right now is that people were afraid that they were being lied to about the offense and then their fears got realized Saturday afternoon.
Les had been pumping up how he was willing to change the offense and then didn't change one goddamned thing.
Based on what I saw and what I heard of the press conference, I am concerned that Les has lost the team as well as some of the coaching staff. I would bet some of those buggers are spending part of today updating their resumes because they know it is just a matter of time.
I like a run game myself, but understand that defenses and personnel have changed somewhat over the years to the point that you have to have a little more balance in your approach. Moreover, you need to have a coaching staff that will recruit the right folks for positions, teach those recruits, and put them in positions on the field that gives them a chance for success. If an assistant is not pulling their weight, they need to go. Charles McClendon was too loyal to his own staff (who really did not do him many favors) and look where it got him. I remember that all too well, and really hate to see us going through a repeat.
However, the bottom line is that Les and his staff promised changes that didn't materialize and won't. The players, knowing no better, were parroting what their coaches were saying. I don't blame the players.
However, in the final analysis there is a difference between coach speak and out right lying. Les has done a lot of the former, and then engaged in the latter.
It not coach speak or lying, he simply got hard headed and refused to discuss things. He owed the Tiger Nation a big apology for 1/9/12 which was the date that his program finally jumped the shark. Evidently, he did not feel like we were entitled to an explanation. For those of us who have supported the Tigers for years with our presence in the stands and with our hard earned money, I would beg to differ.
Interestingly, the day after 1/9/12, I was in court that morning and in chambers the Judge was so pissed off over the game that he was talking with the D.A. about finding a way to have Miles charged and convicted for malfeasance in office. Even though he was a contract employee, he was still technically an employee of the state and should be treated accordingly for the team's preparation and on-field play 1/9/12. Given the Judge's mood at the time, if he would have had his way Miles would have been hanging off of one of the trees in the Court House's front yard. Obviously that one never panned out, nor would I have personally wanted it to. As it was, we all simply let the Judge rant and rave for about a half hour before we got down to business at hand. I relate the story to illustrate the outrage a number of fans have over the program.
The team is not going to be able to just show up and win just because they're LSU. They are going to have to earn it every day. I have no doubt that these kids are working hard. My concern is that they are not being coached to play smart and are showing signs of lacking proper conditioning.
The kids on that team are talented and want to win, but they need the proper guidance.
I really wanted to see this guy succeed, but this last lie is the final straw.
It's time for the program to go in a different direction. We may have to wade through the season and wait until the end to make the change, but someone needs to start doing their homework and be prepared to engage in some back channel negotiations in about a month.
I'll support the kids on the team, but I have lost confidence in the coaching staff.
Most of all, I have lost confidence in Les Miles as a head coach, and yes I know that he is a good person in the community, but he has lied to us about our Tigers. That's totally unacceptable and he needs to go.

A female caller last night on Hanigrif summed it up perfectly. "There is no accountability."

Oh, I don't doubt it for a minute.

Miles never said he was drastically changing the offense. In fact he mocked that idea after the A&M game last year.
“I want you to know something. It’s a real interesting thing – ‘the serious overhaul of the offense,” Miles said, mocking a question about drastically changing his offense
This is a senile captain on a ship. The ship is sinking and everyone last year wanted to keep the captain because he was nice.

Les has no clue what a balanced offense means so he's probably not lying just ignorant

When Miles' arse was on the line late last year, he had assured Joe Alleva that the offense would be brought up to date. Between the A&M game and the bowl game, he started crawfishing.
However, he had also been putting out how things were "smokin'" during fall practice. Those kids went out on the field yesterday knowing goddamned well that they weren't adequately prepared and were essentially out their fending for themselves. I felt for them, but not the coaching staff.

The lying is what angers me the most. LSU has given to him, and he has given back to the community in humanitarian ways.
The problem is a multimillionaire coach not putting forth the effort...because it would of taken real work to transition from Flintstones towards more Jetsons (Reaching out & visiting NFL & other successful offensive coaches across the country) to
make a genuine effort of incorporating new ideas that work in modern football.
Instead, yesterday came across as an ego payback for the coaching change debacle, daring the administration to fire him for not correcting his documented failed offensive philosophy as promised.

Exactly!! Not sure where everyone is getting this "Miles assured he would make changes to the offense" talk from. It was assumed that he would given the situation toward last year and that he may have given assurances he would or given an ultimatum to change if he stayed. Don't recall him ever saying we would change the offense.

Right. I thought, from miles post game pressers after a&m, he basically said F you all. This is the way I do things.
"Does the serious overhaul of this offense include Leonard Fournette? Are we taking away the running game?" Miles said. "There's not a serious overhaul because the engine seems to be pretty freakin' strong. Do we want to consider changes? You betcha. But I think an overhaul is a bit much."

BS about BH being better and making better throws and decisions Bs about being more open on offense BS about having a want to.....you know blah freakin blah

I think his words were "there's nothing wrong with the engine."

That was only the idiots who think it's somehow important for them to know what's going on inside the program. I don't give a shite if the coach lies to me every god-damned PC. Just win the fricking games on Saturday and you can tell me Brandon Harris fricked a unicorn while executing a perfect read option in practice today.

If they aren't updating their resumes, they are fricking idiots. Which, of course, means probably none of them are, except maybe Aranda, who is probably hand-walking his over to Alleva right now.

I agree. McClendon and Miles are both too loyal to their assistants. Miles wants recruiters and doesn't give a shite whether they can coach. That's why every year we have a great recruiting class and a shitty season.

However, the bottom line is that Les and his staff promised changes that didn't materialize and won't.
No, they didn't promise shite. They told us all off-season that they didn't think there was a problem with the overall scheme on offense and they did exactly what they said they would do, which is the same thing they've been doing.
quote:
The players, knowing no better, were parroting what their coaches were saying. I don't blame the players.
The great talents are going to make it to the NFL no matter how bad their college coaches were at showcasing their talents. Can you imagine one of the worst passing offenses outside of West Point and Annapolis putting WRs in the NFL on the reg like we do? This staff is promising them a ticket to the NFL and they are delivering on that. It's great for the players, but does nothing for the program because they don't use the talent they recruit. But the players aren't being misled. They are being told that they will go to the NFL and winning in college is irrelevant, and it's true.
quote:
However, in the final analysis there is a difference between coach speak and out right lying. Les has done a lot of the former, and then engaged in the latter.
So what? Why does the coach have to tell you or me the truth? He's telling the players the truth. He's telling them you will compete against elite athletes and go to the NFL while winning nothing of significance as a team. Do you think any of these players give a shite about winning a championship or accomplishing team goals? Hell no! They want to go to the NFL and they are doing that, so Miles is not lying to them.

They are working hard on their individual skills but they could not give a shite about winning. Stay healthy, make a highlight reel play every now and then and take a play off whenever you want, and get your paycheck on draft day. Why would they do anything else when nobody expects anything more than that?

Agree with all except the "in about a month" part. That needs to have already happened. If it didn't start last November, it's overdue.
