I can tell you that with absolute certainty he had a busted radiator and fluid all over the interstate.

Has two small rear-end incidents from retarded college kids. Both times, I drove off fine and their cars were fricked up

With this configuration I could see a hitch messing up the radiator on the rig..

I had the same thing happen with my 08 ram 1500
We were both backing out of parking spots at the same time, I saw she started after me and was about to hit me so threw it in drive and tried to pull forward, as soon as I did that she hit me. No damage, got my trailer hitch only

Present good advice.
People steal them though.

No way mine is coming loose. It takes 2 pairs of channel lock pliers to get the bolt and nut out.

Not sure...but it can bend your frame in an accident.
Saved me twice. One dude was like you want to call the cops? Front of his car bumper had a big V in it. I'm like you can if you want a ticket for being at fault?? I'm good if you are? He's like ummm alright. I drove off left him staring at his car. Have the 3 hitch on mine.

I don't keep mine in bc I'm afraid I'm going to back into someone.

I don't keep mine in because it's ugly as shite

Please don't. It causes more damage to whatever you hit/hits you. Yeah, you back into something with a bare hitch? Now you're liable for increased damage.
Plus cars are already at a disadvantage if one has a collision with your lifted truck. Trailer hitches don't give like deforming bumpers do and having one on when you don't need it may cause additional injury to the other party--or even yourself, if you get rear-ended hard enough to screw up your back or your neck.
Just don't. Your anecdotal evidence doesn't say anything good about hitches except that they increase the damage that the other vehicle suffers.

Several years ago had a guy do the ole zoom up on my bumper and fall back.
On the third one I hit my brakes and punched a big round hole into the plastic bumper of his piece of shite car.
Of course not a scratch on my truck and no explanation from him on why he was zooming up on me like that. Just a disappointed expression on his face looking at his bumper.
It was a very satisfying moment.
Never drive without it.

I always do. Mainly for parking. If someone parks real close to me, I take it out and that extra 6" is always enough to get me out.

Good. Don't rear end people. The person hitting the other from behind is at fault and the person being hit has a right to as much protection from your dumb arse as possible.
Two cars have fricked themselves up on my hitch. Neither damaged my Tundra's frame. One had his radiator punctured, the other, who was high as a kite, just caved in her hood because she kinda slid under it a bit. In the first case, where the guy got his radiator busted, he actually tried to complain to the cop about my hitch. He said "My damage wouldn't be so bad if not for his hitch. Shouldn't that be illegal?" The cop's response was - I swear to God - "shite happens. Don't run into people."

maybe you were going too slow in the left lane. Then you brake checked him.

I've had mine in my truck since 2004. I've never backed into anyone and no one has ever rear ended me but I have rounded my truck without thinking and hello hitch meet mr shin.

I agree 100%. got rear ended and not a scratch on mine but a hole in the bumper of the front end of the car that hit me. I always keep my hitch in.

In some states, it is illegal to drive with the ball insert installed UNLESS you are actually towing. Reason cited is that it can come loose and fall out and become a serious hazard
I wonder if that has actually ever happened.

I guess they can come loose and fall off.
SO had a flat. The offending object was the pin from a receiver hitch. Don't know where the hitch wound up but that blunt arse pin sure ruined a tire.
