I don't really get the legacy thing.

Maybe I somewhat get the Manning situation cuz of the Ole Miss/anti-anything-LSU household. Still, Peyton, Eli and Cooper grew up as Louisianians in the Garden District and yet they all chose to go OOS for other state schools. Now maybe Archie had the boys watching Ole Miss games on tv during the times they couldn't make it to Oxford in person so growing up in that atmosphere left them with no ties to Louisiana schools.

The Swilling boys, on the other hand, had to have a hard time finding Ga Tech on tv. And if they were forced to go Ga Tech games with Papa Pat, that gameday experience had to pale in comparison to an SEC experience (LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee, etc.) I could see Pat bragging about his school & glory days and the boys thinking "So what? Ga Tech is irrelevant."

And then we have our own legend in Shaq, but the legacy thing isn't a factor for his son.
Someone explain.

Georgia Tech is a great school, they were a package deal (which limited some options), and the current DC there played with Pat at Georgia Tech. Makes sense to me.

GA Tech, MIT, and Cal Poly.....

The top 3 Engineering schools (not in order). A couple of 4 star athletes thinking beyond football.

Also LSU was in the dumps during that time frame, (especially Peyton's). A little different now, several championships later.
