Fewer carbs is fewer calories

This bothers me in that it isn't true. Fewer starches is fewer calories is a better way to put it.

Veggies are low cal and have carbs.

This I 100% agree with. I do eat a lot of starches (potatoes and sweet potatoes and such) but those are things you find on the outer ring of the grocery store and are still healthy

I wasn't trying to be scientific in rebutting what someone else said. I try to adhere the low-ish carb diet and wanted to keep the conversation going in hopes for some ideas I haven't thought of and the water weight comment was shite for this thread.

I agree with you, starches and processed foods are what we try to avoid. We actually have half a sweet potato baked served like a traditional baked potato once or twice a week. My line of thinking is that 3rd place on your plate is usually doing you more harm than good because it's potatoes, mac and cheese, pasta, or something like that and eliminating it is an easy way to significantly reduce your caloric intake.
