I feel this album gets overlooked. It's probably my second favorite of his. Between the main album and Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D they are both amazing albums. It feels a lot like TDS to me. It marked Reznor returning with an amazing remix album (some of the remixes I prefer over the orignals, like Great Destroyer).
Just want to give it props.

I liked it when it came out, but the remix album changed that to a love fest. Still I would not put this above PHM, Broken, TDS or Fragile, so it is 5th on my list
A true gem.

The viral marketing for this album was amazing. I loved how they did it and I anticipated it's release more than almost any album that I can remember. They created an alternate reality game...I remember, they did some secret show somewhere in Cali (LA?) and made everyone who showed up at some place give them their wallets, phones, etc. Then they blindfolded them and took them on a bus to some warehouse. Video
I loved it when it came out, but I think I wore it out because I don't have much of a desire to listen to it any more. I usually gravitate toward TDS, Fragile, or With Teeth when I listen to NIN.
I've never actually listened to the remix album. I'll give it a shot!

what is this marilyn manson song "Third Day of a Seven Day Binge"? I can't stop playing it - was it a hit when it first came out last year?

I heard they left unlabeled flash drives on the bathroom counter at the venue of some NIN shows around that time. There were a few songs from the album on there. They also put some weird viral website too.

they were giving fans access to the studio cuts and allowing them to perform their own remixes. I believe they even ran a contest for it. Yeah, it was a great fan friendly endeavor.
Trent has always been a big time fan friendly musician. His shows are always over the top and are under priced compared to other concerts, and he constantly does things to get fans involved. He may be a prick on a personal level, but he is the best when it comes to his fans.

Very underrated.
I really like it.
But, I like all things Reznor.

I remember the ARG they made for it. There were tons of 800 phone numbers posing as dystopian gov't agencies and they had tons of hidden URLS and such. On the back of the CD (which the disc actually changed colors from the heat while playing it from white to black, which in itself was awesome) had a 800 number on the back that when you called it said "By calling this number you are pleading guility to purchasing and supporting anti-american proaganda"
awesome
I even remember that one of the songs actually analyzed by a spectrometer had some of the fuzz and chaos trent likes to end his songs with and it showed an image of the album art hand (the presence) This would only be revealed when analyzing the sound file in a spectrometer which to me was an amazing discovery and makes me wonder what else Reznor has hidden in the data of his songs.
Year Zero Alternate Reality Game

Good album, I am fonder of others mainly the Fragile. But NIN is great stuff. This album can hit you in ways to challenge your mind
