they will have lots of homework and some weird people

do West dale heights (or Dufroq), sherwood, then lee or Baton rouge high .

Gifted is an option too: Buchanan, parkview , glasgow, then Mckinley or woodlawn. Shittier though

My oldest went Sherwood 6-8 and will start BRMHS next week. My youngest will be in 7th at Sherwood and was in 6th last year

Have nothing but positive things to say about the school.

They will both be great choices for the parents of EBR parish and should have the capacity to serve all of the families who choose the Magnet experience in the future.

My youngest went to Dufrocq for 3 years in the Montessori program. Absolutely loved it. Moved her to be with her older sibs at our parish catholic school. If she was my first or only I would have kept her at Dufrocq longer.

My biggest fear with the magnet, gifted and specialized programs in EBR are that you just never know when they are going to yank a program from one school to another and stuff like that. You also get more student turn over from year to year...less consistency of the other people they are in school with. So, it can be harder to get to know the other parents for that reason. That being said, the parent involvement was fantastic when we were at Dufrocq.

True to some extent, but if your kid is in Dufrocq's Montessori program or at BR FLAIM, you will have very few new students come into the program after K/1st grade, since students have to enter the program in the early grades unless they have prior Montessori or Immersion experience. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) as children move away/leave the programs, their classes get smaller and smaller.

I was gifted at McKinley and then magnet at BRMHS in the late 90s. I'd recommend it to anyone.

My kids all went through magnet/gifted/talented programs. BRCVPA and BRMHS were excellent. McKinley was solid as well. No complaints from me about the EBR public school system. All went on to successful college careers.

Wife went to Baton Rouge High. Great school back then.....apparently installing the arts students has negatively impacted it.
