Do you think that understanding the "eight men out" version of history has now been disputed or disproven should be considered? Conventional wisdom can be simply wrong. People can be unpopular for unfair reasons. The movie Amadeus made Salieri out to be a lot of things to which he probably had no resemblance.

As an aside it was on this date in 1978 that his 44 game hitting streak came to an end.Longest in NL history.Gene Garber struck him out to end the game.
