I would say it depends on your family situation and if you want to go back.
I'm in the military and have deployed multiple times. Before my child was born, it was dangerous, but tolerable. After she was born, it became miserable being away from her. Knowing that I was missing out on her growing up. I haven't deployed in a long time. Deployments, obviously, have slowed a great deal. I don't want to go back just because I don't want to miss anymore of her life. That being said, I'd go if I have to.
So, if you can go and tolerate what you are missing out on, I'm sure the rewards will be worth it. Missing family though is tough.
