He didn't appear on the cover of Justice League until #10 (and was basically absent from 99% of the original JSA run).
So I can handle a JLA movie without Superman.
That being said, I know that Snyder wanted him out of the picture to make the formation of the team into more of a challenge. I'm hoping that he's saved as a big reveal as the return of THE superhero.
