When purchasing the company's coverage, you are really only covering yourself from filing a claim and paying your deductible. Almost every full coverage auto policy covers you in a rental vehicle but you would still be responsible for filing claims and paying deductibles. If you only need a car for a day or two, it may be worth the extra $20-40 to not have to pay your deductibles if you get a door ding bigger than an inch or two. Don't ever buy PAI or Liability coverage from them though. Not worth it.
