Holy nitpick Batman!

Kinda agree because that's something that only a person like Baloo would pick up on

If you're so obsessed with this minor detail, it could very easily be explained as The Smith's record being a gift from his cretinous "hip" dad.

But they established that his dad was not "hip". Jonathan tells Mike that he needs to be his own person and hates that his dad is trying to make Mike like "normal" things by taking him to baseball games.

Though I guess it's possible the dad took them minor league games I'm assuming they were going to Chicago, Saint Louis, or Cincinnati for the baseball games.

Chicago especially I could see it being possible that he ditched his dad for a bit to check out an import record shop.

I did preface it that it was a nitpick. And the only reason I bring it up is because every other reference was so perfect. This is a show in which one kid tells his friends he will not lend them his X-Men 137... and expects you to know that's the Death of Phoenix. This show is ABOUT its references.

The Smiths thing is like Kate Winslet having the Picasso in Titanic. It's an easy shorthand to show how much smarter/perceptive she is than Billy Zane and her mom. In a big blockbuster like Titanic, I don't mind that obvious of a pop culture stroke, because you're playing to the bigger audience. This show was playing to the niche, so a lazy reference sticks out a lot more. They are drawing character through references, like they did with everyone, and Jonathan's are slightly off. It didn't ruin the show or anything, but he was drawn as too cool.

I mean, I loved the show, but sifting through the myriad of references is sort of the point. It's designed for nitpicking and Spot the Reference. That's part of the fun.
