My daughters are obsessed...waiting in line at Potbelly getting my wreck dressed and a bunch in line are on it. It has been talked about on local radio and businesses barring it in their establishments. How big is it in your neck of the woods?

I still don't know what it is

Getting pretty big. Surprised how committed some of my mid-20s friends are

It seems it forces you outside to hunt down Pokemon characters on your phone with google maps.

In hindsight it's incredible it took this long to get an app like this. It is a genius use of smartphones. My only question is whether it is purely free or is it a freemium app with in-app purchases. If it is the former, where do they make their money,?

So does the game randomly generate characters in locations or do other players place them?
Posted on 7/11/16 at 11:37 am to slackster
there are in-app purchases

randomly generated, but associated with the type of pokemon they are. "Water" pokemon will be found near bodies of water, ghost pokemon at night in graveyards etc.

I had it until I heard the urban dwellers in Pinellas County, i.e St. Petersburg and Clearwater, were using it to track people's location to rob them. I've since deleted it.

Four teens are suspects in multiple armed robberies after using the app to lure victims.
This might make people re-think using this with all the unrest going on...

Maybe to enhance the Pokemon franchise. My 7 year old is obsessed with the show and has Pikachoe (sp?) stuffed animal she loves. I swear, half of the people in the Potbelly on on it n

Well, I haven't seen an ad yet. It's a freemium as in there are in-app purchases, which I'm assuming is going to be necessary to "be the best there ever was" and "to catch them all".

Had recently been wondering if kids were still into this. Felt like it was more early 90s kids who were that perfect age when pokemon first blew up

So how do kids play it? Do you have to drive all over town? My 8 year old can't drive yet

Seems like they could sell premium items to local businesses. Want a bad arse Pokémon? Welcome to Blue Bayou.

walk, ride bikes, segway whatever. Some say it's designed as a fitness app cause you have to walk to get to different places. Most will undoubtedly get no physical benefit from it
