Not sure if there are any hard starts, but it seems like a lot of people know regular suburban joes who got hooked on painkillers and have destroyed their lives.

My best friend from college passed away almost three years ago after developing an addiction to painkillers after two major back surgeries (failed lumber fusions) and a total shoulder replacement in the span of three years. Died alone in a $20 million beach house in Hermosa Beach, CA- all of his money couldn't save him from his demons.
