Posted on 7/7/16 at 12:15 am
10. DEL WILLIAMS (1967): Played for the Saints from day 1 to 1973. Was a starter at guard from 1970 to 1973.
9. JOHN TICE (1983): Backup to Hoby Brenner. Played 10 seasons with the Saints. Tied with Archie Manning with 134 games as a Saint (5th all-time among offensive skill position players). 1,603 receiving yards, 15 TDs.
8. ELOIS GROOMS (1975): Started every game at DE for the Saints from 1977-1981. Played 13 seasons in the NFL with 108 career starts, 79 with the Saints.
7. TERRON ARMSTEAD (2013): Two-year starter at LT for Saints (so far). On track already for a big career and will keep moving up the list.
6. HOBY BRENNER (1981): No skill position player on offense has appeared in more games as a Saint (175). 8th all time for receiving yards as a Saint (3,849). 1987 Pro Bowler.
5. RUEBEN MAYES (1986): 1,353 rushing yards as a rookie. 4th-best single-season total by a Saint. Saints' 5th all-time leading rusher. Career sidetracked by injuries and emergence of Dalton Hilliard. Two-time Pro Bowler.
4. FRANK WARREN (1981): 5th all time in Sacks for Saints with 52.5. Starter at DE for Jim Mora's best seasons (minus the drug suspension year). Played 13 seasons for the Saints and appeared in 189 games. 2 non-offensive TDs and one safety.
3. TOMMY MYERS (1972): 2nd all time for Saints in INTs (one behind Waymer). 1979 Pro Bowl. 5 non-offensive TDs with 2 pick-sixes, including the 3rd-longest in Saints history (97 yards). 120 career starts at safety.
2. PAT SWILLING (1986): 76.5 sacks in 7 seasons with the Saints, 3rd all-time for the team. 1991 AP Defensive Player of the Year. 4 Pro Bowls as a Saint. 23rd in NFL history in career sacks.
1. JIMMY GRAHAM (2010): The most prolific TE in Saints history (4,752 yards), and one of the 2 top receiving TEs of the 2010s so far. 3 Pro Bowls. 1 First Team All NFL.
HONORABLE MENTION (even though they were all pretty crappy as Saints, at least they stuck around):
TERRY HOAGE
WINFRED TUBBS
BRADY SMITH
JACK DEL RIO
BARRY BENNETT
EUGENE GOODLOW
BIVIAN LEE
DECENT PLAYERS WHO BARELY OR NEVER PLAYED WITH THE SAINTS:
BARRY WORD (barely played in NO because of drug issues)
BOB SIMMONS
BOB KUZIEL

I said that. Top five, minimum.

Swilling should be ahead of Jimmy graham on his production as a Saint and what we got in return for him being traded to Detroit WILLIAM ROAF...

Man, I really like some of those players. Great value from 3rd rounders.......

Correct. I hope Stephone Anthony and Max Unger can compare, but it's almost impossible to compare with Roaf.
I look at Swilling and Graham as almost identical. They were one-dimensional players on opposite sides of the ball, but they were INCREDIBLE at that one dimension. They were both in the right system at the right time. I went with Graham because I think that at his peak, nobody but Gronk was comparable to him. He was the man at that position. Swilling was great, but there were other great pass rushers from the LB position that were as good as him if not better (like LT and Tippett), including one on the other side of the ball from him.

I would put Swilling at #1.
Jimmy gets moved because he was a huge bitch going across the middle when the season was on the line a few years ago.

I'm just popping in to say that these draft pick threads are interesting. It's fun to think about old players like Rueben...but the talent levels are also completely depressing.

Yes. When you have 50 drafts and 8-10 on your third round list were "well...they weren't really good but they were here for a long time," that's not good.
I found that the 4th round picks had more depth of talent than the 3rd.

hmm was it against carolina towards the end of the season? it might have been the season where the whole nfc south was garbage and we were all fighting to get into the playoffs with possibly a losing record
