Sterling was a registered sex offender, state records show. He was convicted in 2000 of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and was released from prison in 2004. Details of that case were not immediately available. Sterling also had convictions for aggravated battery, criminal damage to property, unauthorized entry and domestic abuse battery, The Advocate reports. He was sentenced to five years in prison in 2009 for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and carrying an illegal weapon with a controlled dangerous substance.?

Was not a reason for the cop to murder him.

Being 5'11'' - 6'0'' and over 300 lbs, in possession of a firearm, while not compliant to less than lethal force (tazing), yeah they should have let him pull the weapon all the way out, fire it to be sure it's real, then respond.
