CNet sucks. Use rtings.com for televisions and 4K.com

Sony has the worst picture quality among high end 4K sets besides the awful LG sets. So there goes any CNet credibility they had left in 2016.

Vizio and Samsung are aways ahead.

The Vizio P is a little bit better for watching movies in a dark room and playing video games. In a living room with ambient lighting however, the Vizio P has more reflection and not an as good picture. Lower quality content like TV channels are also better on the Samsung. As a whole, the KS8000 is a more versatile TV

As a whole, the Sony X930D picture quality isn’t superior but its price is. Only get it if you absolutely want 3D which is not available on the Samsung KS8000. The Samsung KS8000 offers a better picture quality both in a very bright or very dark room.

The Samsung KS8000 is the best buy for a TV in this price range if you want to use it for multiple usage. Not a lot of other TVs can compete with its high picture quality, number of features and asking price.

Vizio suffers from a poor UHD upscaler, whereas Samsung has the best in the business by a wide margin. So if you have/watch 720p/1080p content a lot, that upscaler makes a large difference and is probably the single most important feature of a 4K set. Also, the Vizio P series still does not have HDR10, Vizio promised months ago they were patching it in in a software update but have delayed that multiple times, sketchy customer service there IMO.
If you go to rtings and open both up and compare the individual ratings for all of the features, you'll see the Samsung is decently ahead of the still solid P series.

There's a reason the Samsungs are a bit more expensive than the Vizios, and it's not just the name, Samsung simply offers more features, and of the features they share, Samsung is simply better at them.

You can routinely find the 65" KS8000 for $1999, memorial day sale they were $1997 at every major retailer and Best Buy even had a few open box for $1800 which is a ridiculous steal.

I'm not really sure how much of 480 or 720 I plan on watching. Everything would be through uverse, blu rats, or apple TV.

I would run to the store to get that P series at 1799.
