Our offense would be great if we had a decent quarterback.

Harris is gonna be super decent this season!

People forget how well he was doing before the Bama game when he got injured.

To be fair to Miles, when he has had a good QB he has used him efficiently. Mettenberger was quite efficient in 2012 and very good in 2013. Those years he had a defense that let him down. If Welter was not biting on Bo Wallace's fakes in 2013 we win the Ole Miss game . In 2012 If chief does not go prevent and keeps the heat on McCarron, the dude would have had a real reason to cry after the game.

Saying this means you don't realize the true problems last year. Like I said a thousand times, people rewatch these games to get a clear assessment. Don't be like the talking heads of the media who regurgitate shite.

Everything from blocking to receivers to scheme was bad last year. As a first year starter Harris needed better receiver play first and foremost. Bad routes and a RIDICULOUS amount of drops. When you're 117th of 126 in attempts per game (and this stat has gotten worse the past 4 years and has been terrible since 2009), your drop rate can't be the same as offenses who pass it twice as much. I watched recently games vs Texas Tech, Syracuse, and Western Kentucky, and it is just ridiculous the amount of drops. Throwing it 20 or so times and getting 4-6 flat out drops is insane. I didn't rewatch the game vs Eastern Michigan but I remember just how horrid Dural was. He needed to not be put in so many 3rd and long situations by the coaches. We'd run on first and 2nd and expect this guy to convert 3rd and 7, 8, 9+ constantly. Harris was raw AF coming out of high school and I always thought (and wrote on here) that he needed at least two years before he stepped on the field. We could not offer him that because we are so damn crappy at QB management. It boggles the mind how Bama can roll out a 3rd or 4th year first time player yearly and he be such a good game manager in their system. Another thing is that the youth of the OL and his injury did him no favors when they actually faced good defensive lines in November.

He DEFINITELY needed to improve though, and Craig should be able to fix his most glaring problems like touch and mechanics. His year with experience and being healthy will aid as well. If the problems I spoke of in the first paragraph are fixed (the OL should improve by attrition and experience), then we should have a truly explosive offense this year.

This is complete crap weak sauce bullshite and is nothing but a cop out for shitty coaching allowing them to place the blame for their shortcomings on teenagers who came to them to be coached.

If Les Miles had coached Dak Prescott, it would have been Jordan Jefferson redux. Conversely, if Mullen (or any of several other good offensive coaches) had coached Jordan Jefferson, I'm not so sure he wouldn't have at least had the same success in his career as Jason Campbell.
