I still get all watery eyed thinking about how there are no civil war vets walking around. Don't get me started on the American Revolution.

My grandfather - USMC - died in 1998. He fought the Japs at Peleliu. His brother, Robert, was KIA in France, he was 20 years old.

When all the veterans of a particular war or witnesses of a major historical event die off we lose a direct connection to the past. It's worth noting, at a minimum.
