It's the off season so I like to follow Tigers now in the pros. In this MMQB article about the All-Minicamp Hype Team Danielle Hunter gets a shout-out:

"DE: Danielle Hunter, Vikings — “The big thing for him is to use what God gave him and he'll be unstoppable,” says defensive end Everson Griffen."

Imagine if he'd had Orgeron for his time here rather than Brick and Chavis; hopefully Arden Key shows us what Danielle could have been.

Anyway, off season doldrums...

#1 wasted talent of Chavis' regime. People are going to look back and question why his production wasn't head turning at LSU.

It was head turning to people that took the time to look. The guy had over 70 tackles and 13 tfl his last year here. He had the 4th most tackles of any dlineman in the country. He absolutely shut his side down against the run. People just looked at his lack of sacks and assumed he underachieved. Hunter was a monster for us his last year.

I mean, sure he could've been a little better at pass rushing, but he was pretty great against the run.

Wasn't he the youngest player in the NFL last year? Wait til he hits his ceiling.

He could have had more sacks for sure. That wasn't Chavis' style though

2014 D (19 sacks) >>> 2015 D (34 sacks)

I'd rather hold ole miss to 7, bama to 13 (reg), and Arkansas to 17 than worry about any sack total.

I have a feeling we'll have the best of both worlds in aranda this season though. I hated Steele

Yes he was an outstanding player but if you aren't a sack master you rarely get noticed by the talking heads. I'm glad people saw through his lack of sacks and saw how dominant he could be as a pure athlete. His get off and acceleration were lethal though at times and he wasn't ever taught pass rushing moves and that's just disgraceful.

a little off topic but in that article he says something about Darren Sharper's sentence not being long enough. I completely agree that Sharper is a monster and deserves to rot in jail for life BUT he describes him as "former saints cornerback".

1) his position is wrong. thats nit picky but a sports writer should know a player of his caliber and longevity's position.

2) He was only a Saint for 2 seasons! he could easily have been called a former Packer or Viking. That's my main gripe, why do the saints need to be the only former team he played for that gets thrown under the bus?

sorry for derailing the topic and Im pumped that Hunter is doing well!

Ill take 70 tackles and 13 tfl from my de over 9-10 sacks every year.

The best thing about Hunter was that he got the bulk of those gaudy tackle numbers in conf play.

His dispersion looks pretty even to me. He had a ton of tackles (12) in the game where Auburn dry humped us up and down the field. Other than that, his production was virtually the same in and out of conference.

Yeah thats what i was getting at. I shouldve said he didn't just feast on weak ooc teams like Myles Garrett did 2 years ago and to lesser extent last year.

I think you're right. The Vikings' staff absolutely love the kid. He definately has a bright future there.

He had 6 sacks last year for the Vikings... While at LSU, he only had 4.5... glad Haley is gone now.

He had 130 tackles and 21 tfl in 2 seasons. Ill take that over 20 sacks in 2 years.

But yes our current dline coach is one of the best in cfb and haley sucked imo.

My point wasn't that he wasn't good while at LSU. The point I was trying to make was that our coaching staff did very little in the way of teaching him how to pass rush. He was great against the run, but while he was a starter our pass rush was almost nonexistent. That isn't because of him and the other D-linemen. I blame it on coaching. We have DL now who were backups (Herron and Gilmore) who are now producing at a much higher level than under the previous defensive staff. I just wish Hunter had the opportunity to play under Orgeron.

Are you saying that you would take 73 tackles in a year plus 14 tfls instead of just 14 sackes with no additional tackles? Of course you would, anyone would. Why would that be the trade off?
