This is terrific news. I received an email today from Plex that reads as follows:
I've been considering which NUC computer to purchase to use as a server for Plex. My laptop that I use now is not powerful enough for more than one transcode at a time. The price here is just right at $299 with two game controllers and a 500gb hd, AND it can act as a server!

Starting today, an over-the-air software update is making it possible for NVIDIA SHIELD owners the world over to begin using their devices (all SHIELD models) as a Plex Media Server. This is exciting for a variety of reasons (listed in detail on our blog), but the most awesome one? With this single device you can store, organize, transcode, and stream your media, as well as view any of it on your TV! Not to mention, it’s an awesome gaming system starting at a great price point that offers lots of other apps as well. Check out the SHIELD site for purchasing info.

I have a shield and I love it. Handles everything I throw at it very well.

Can you connect an external hard drive to the shield? I use my laptop as my plex server because it's plugged in most of the time but using this if I can connect my hard drive would be a better.

Awesome I'll look into getting a shield. Then I'll be able to move my Fire TV to my bedroom.
