What would be awesome is a first division NOLA FC playing Houston, Atlanta, and Dallas, or a second division NOLA FC playing at Shreveport, Jackson, Mobile, etc.

As MLS gets through all the major cities, they have to have more cost effective forms for second-tier markets

USL. USL is going to become MLS 2 some day when relegation/promotion is instituted 50 years down the line (if ever...). NASL wants to be like MLS but is probably going to go the way of the dodo once pro/rel occurs and USL remains the more relevant league.

Right now NOLA appears to be on the path to getting an NASL team within the next decade. They are better funded than USL but in their minds are trying to compete with MLS and would probably not agree to pro/rel with MLS ever. USL is ok with accepting 2nd tier status (unlike NASL), so I could see it gladly joining into a pro/rel scenario with MLS.

Currently the only soccer options for the southern states are PDL and NPSL teams (lower than the aforementioned leagues and mostly made of college players on their offseasons).
