Fairy hunt is very very voluntary.
I didn't like it either.
At least it wasn't like Banjo Kazooie where you had to get every freakin' piece.
I did like being able to wear the Fierce Deity's mask around Hyrule using a glitch.

I don't know about that. I wanted that Double Magic and Double Armor. That comes in a lot of handy.
