How did they barely go above 500 with two lottery picks on the team?

He's not THAT bad. Romar at least has a few accomplishments that Jones doesn't, like winning a NCAAT game and a reg. season conf. title. That said, he's closer to Jones and someone like Leonard Hamilton, than he is to a guy like Calipari

They were picked preseason 11th in the PAC-12. So going 9-9 in conference they actually overachieved.

They also had a really good senior PG Andrew Andrews

They have underwhelmed before with NBA prospects
Hawes
Ross
Wroten
and now Chriss, and Murray.

Seattle is a pretty cool town. I mean in some ways it blows away Durham, Lawrence, and Lexington if you want a real cosmopolitan big city that is pretty liberal.
Plus there are a lot of good basketball players on the West Coast and that includes Western Canada.
I've always thought that you can win big in Washington. Look at the success of Gonzaga and they are in Spokane after all.

Well for one, they weren't expected to do shite in what turned out to be an incredibly loaded league.
They did much better than anticipated.

Yeah, just from the Northwest you have Gonzaga, Oregon is a factor under Altman now, OSU had their best team in 25 years. Then you throw in Arizona, UCLA (who was bad but capable of winning a game based purely on talent), Utah with Poeltl, USC is turning around, Cal was good.

Romar does a great job at preparing players for the NBA. Not the best in-game coach though.
Both potential lottery picks were true Freshmen.
4 out of 5 starters were true Freshmen and the first 3 guys off of the bench were 1st year players (2 true Freshman and 1 JC transfer). I believe UW had the 2nd youngest team in college basketball last year, so going 9-9 and narrowly missing the tournament was considered a successful season based on expectations.
Markelle Fultz next year will be a top 5 pick out of UW as well.
